This author reached out to me to read her debut release. I had hoped to have this posted on the go live date, but alas, kids, family, and holiday’s spoiled that plan. I will start this by saying, there is some romance, but it is more of a thriller, suspense, mystery story. I love murder mysteries, so I was eager to dive in. Little did I know I was in for a Criminal Minds meets Patricia Cornwell read. It was a total mind trip that I had to completely switch gears after and read something warm and fuzzy. I really enjoyed it. I at first struggled with a rating. For me the book started slow, but I try to take into consideration its the first in the series, and a lot of ground work to cover. It started out as a 4 but after sitting on this for a few days, I think it is a 5 and that is what I’m rating it as. Mainly, because after all this time, I’m still thinking about it, still mad at S.L. (she totally knows why), and want my followers to read this.
Logan St.Martin is the lead detective on what will be the case of her career, I think. She finds herself in a situation that will cause her to break down some cinderblock walls and let people in. When Michael Grasso, her partner for the case, comes barreling into her life without a choice, she finds she likes it. Both of them will have to overcome things they never thought.
There are so many surprises and plot twists in this story, you will be kept guessing. I thought I knew the killer, but I was wrong. I secretly love when I’m wrong at guessing. Also, I love when an author makes me feel so passionately about something. I vehemently wanted to hunt her down on one part. Having sat on the story, I get WHY she did what she did and applaud her for taking that chance. I think it added to the story. Although, I’m still mad HAHA.
You will also find some open-ended questions and subplots. With this being the first, I asked if we would find the answers and we will in due time. Some of them have to do with Logan and her past and there was one with Lt. Clark for me. You want to know what they are, read the story then come find me LOL. I want my followers to look at it as such, the main plot of the case does conclude and the questions we are left with will grow as a new case arrives in the next series. I think sometimes these little nuggets are placed for us to be peaked in interest and keep us reading more than one story.
I think S.L. is going to be an author to watch out for. She has a way of sucking you in and putting you in the mind of the killer and lead characters. There were times she gave me the heebie jeebies and I had to switch to something lighter.
All this said, my review is below. If you feel inclined, check it out, she’s on KU. Then come back and tell me on FB or here what your thoughts on the story were.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you are looking for an exciting, thrilling, murder mystery, then you MUST get this book. It kept me on the edge of my seat and had me guessing right to the very end. I really enjoyed this debut novel by the author and cannot wait to see what happens next.
Michael Grasso is a detective who has a thing for a colleague. When he lands as second in command on her case, they will have to overcome more obstacles than they bargained for. He is everything you would thing a detective and partner would be. The love that develops for him is something he feels in his bones and knows that Logan will be it. The only thing stopping him is this case and a killer that nobody expected.
Logan St. Martin is a woman with goals and ambitions. Finding love is not one of them. When Michael Grasso comes into her inner circle, she will have to decide if it’s a chance she’s willing to take.
There are so many twists and turns you will be surprised, shocked, and just speechless at times.
I have to tip my hat to the author because there are some chapters in the POV of the bad guy and WOW. She really puts you in their sick, twisted, and demented mind it will give you the creeps. There is such an artistry with how she wove this tale.
