I have been waiting for this story. I’m not even sure how I first found Megan O’Brien, but I fell for her Ride series hard and fast. She has a way with writing her stories, that I can read them over, and over, and over again. I think I have read the Ride series and Crave, first in Talon Security, more times than goodreads can track. When some one first finds her stories out, I get excited. I love hearing what they thought and felt. My fellow sacred sister was messaging me as she began to read Megan’s stories and I was all excited. It made me read them again LOL.
Megan made Emerly a strong female just like her other leading ladies. I relish that about her writing. While everyone needs someone to lean on, she shows that they can overcome so much. Emerly had to learn to trust Travis. It didn’t come easy and she didn’t give it freely. Watching them grow to trust and commit to each other while overcoming what they had to just made me all warm and squishy.
Travis knows he will never be the same once he kissed Emerly. I loved how he was still a guy. He screwed up and groveled, but when it mattered most, he took care of Emerly in a way that had you weak in the knees.
May, can she be my neighbor? Oh who am I kidding she reminds me of my Mom all kick ass and hilarious (love you Mom). This is the second book I’ve had where a friendship knows no limits and I love it! It breaks out of the normal mold and you just know that in the end, it doesn’t matter, the friendship they have is deeper than anything. I was afraid for a while and really thought I would be “mad” at Megan, but my fears were unfounded and I was excited they were with regard to May.
I reached out to Megan because in this story she mentions Scotcharoos (my batch pictured above). Read it, learn about them. They are FANTASTIC. I didn’t think anyone knew about them? Do you know this scrumptious dessert? If so leave me a comment. When my Hubs and I started dating, my Mom asked him what his favorite dessert was. He said we probably never heard of it, but his grandma used to make scotcharoos. Mom said she had, we secretly found a recipe when he was working and surprised him with the treat. We now make them all the time! I wanted to share with you the recipe, it is easy to make yourself.
Scotcharoos
You will need:
9×13 heavily greased baking pan
1 cup dark corn syrup
1 cup white sugar
1 1/2 cups smooth peanut butter
6 cups crisp rice cereal (rice krispie or generic brand)
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup butterscotch chips
- Generously butter a 9×13 inch baking pan. Set aside.
- In a large pot, mix together corn syrup and sugar. Bring to a boil on stove. Watch because you don’t want it to burn. The sugar will dissolve and then the mixture will start to clear, when it does that, be ready to remove from stove for next step.
- Add peanut butter and stir until mixed but don’t let it cool. Then stir in crisp rice cereal.
- Transfer mixture into a well greased 9×13 inch pan. With your hands well greased, pat it down into pan.
- In a medium saucepan, over medium low heat, melt chocolate chips and butterscotch chips until smooth. You can also use the microwave for this, but be careful you don’t burn the chips. I start with 2 minutes at 50% power, stir and then do a minute at 50%. Spread over top of bars and let bars cool. Cut into squares. ENJOY
If Megan is new to you, check out Claim. She has written it in such a way, you don’t need to read the first. You won’t be lost, it’s that well written. While I say that, you NEED to read all her works. She’s an auto one-click and I can’t wait to see what is next.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was fantastic. Just like the first in the series the second doesn’t disappoint and brings together a story, picture, and world you want to walk in to. Everything about it was fast but I didn’t mind it. The quick lust to love matched these two characters. While they were quick the emotional past and scars they covered had so many thoughts swirling in my head.
Emerly has always been the strong one. Trusting isn’t something she knows how to do. She takes a chance and has to push past so much internally as well as externally to find her silver lining and happiness.
Travis figures out that Emerly is his home. Once that revelation comes to lite, he stops at nothing to protect, comfort, and love her. He has his own issues and the end, 😳, did not expect that but so well done.
If you are new to Megan you can read this as a standalone and not be lost. However I recommend you check all her stories out!
