I couldn’t help myself as I quickly consumed Taming a Maverick. It is the next in line for the Sterling Shore series written by CM Owens. All of them have been 5 star reads for me but I think this one takes the cake. I’m trying to pinpoint what exactly made it above and beyond the others, and all I can come up with is the emotions that went into it. Sure it still had the humor factor that is typical to CM’s style, but this one touched on a belonging so deep seeded that you couldn’t help but want to give Salem a home.
Salem comes crashing into Sterling Shore and just has plans to make a quick night. Little does she know that it will turn into a long-term struggle to enjoy a happily ever after that isn’t tainted. The emotions that Salem struggled with played to her strength and also her weakness.
Maverick just got better as his story was told. He had this unique quality about him that Salem figured out from the word go. I was surprised how much inside himself he was. It was an enjoyment watching him lay into his Dad and then Kelly. That had me wanting to give him a standing O and a pat on the back because he is a better man. He fought to the end for Salem and went to the ends of the earth for her.
Sean became my favorite kid. I could see so much he kept hidden. He didn’t even want Salem to see it. It will be very entertaining to watch him grow up in this series. You can only imagine him and Angel getting together and causing havoc, because lets face it she’s not really an Angel either ;).
Kelly is the Mom that has the most to seek redemption for. We don’t get the full closure on her and I was happy with that. Nobody can change over night and to make this realistic, we realize that she is trying. It will be interesting to see more from her if we get Sean’s story.
You can read this as a stand alone, but I strongly suggest you check out the entire romantic comedy series. It is one of the best romcom’s I’ve ever read, and one that I will automatically one click.

Welcome back to the world of Sterling Shore. It’s Maverick’s turn at being tamed. What a taming it was. Salem came in and wrecked his world. I don’t think he was fully prepared for what all she would do to him. I also don’t think Salem was prepared for what he’d do to her. There was a lot of emotion in this story. The journey to their HEA was probably the most emotional by CM. While trying it wasn’t without the humor and family. I think one thing I enjoy most is how CM has made this group of people a family. It’s dysfunctional, you don’t always see everyone, but it’s a family none the less and they are all there when someone needs them.
Salem kind of reminded me of Ruby. You get the Salem she wants everyone to see but so few get to see the real her. I think she only lets her guard down for her older brothers when the story begins. Somehow Maverick worms his way into her life and makes her the weakest and strongest at the same time. I love that she wasn’t in a traditional profession and also that she fit into the group like she was always meant to be.
Maverick took no chances once he had Salem for one night. He knew that she was the chick to rock his world. Now if only Bananas would quit attacking him he could tuna sub with Salem.
Salem’s family brought a dynamic to the story that just made it entertaining at times and heart breaking at others. Nothing can prepare you for Kelly. I’m still not sure about her.
This review could continue on, but I feel like if it did I would spoil so much. Just know this ranks up there as my fave in the SS series and should be added to everyone’s TBR list.
