Haven Cage just released a really good story. I don’t even know what you would classify it as, because it’s romance, but it’s got murder, mystery, intrigue, and strong women abound. I told my Mom she needed to read this book. Haven sucked me in from the word go and didn’t let go of her spell on me until the Epilogue. Every so often you get a romance book that isn’t like one you’ve read before. This story was refreshing and offered so much for smirks, steam, and love.
I am not a writer (don’t pretend to be) but this little collection of words came to me as I was reading Haven’s story.
This is a speak easy tale of love that’s gory
Where men are dapper and dresses are twirly
Tales of love are troubled and broke
Lives are ended before the final word is spoke
It’s dark and chilling with glamor abound
Where home from hell with drag you down
Rising from snow with hearts and daggers
A shot of whiskey will close all that matters
Now on to the good stuff. This has a bit of a mobster vibe in it and I thought it was fantastically done. It was a shorter read for me but no less enjoyable. Vivie and Betty are two gals that enjoy life. Only problem is Vivie has a past that she’s hiding from and a present that is quickly unraveling the future she hoped for. I loved Vivie as a character. Her personality is strong and she isn’t one to back down when danger spits in her face. She will flip the devil the bird and fight back.
Dean was a wild card for me. I genuinely wasn’t sure how he was going to play out his role. He was full of surprises throughout the story. The ride with Vivie was a crazy one but he is willing to fight until the end for her.
The secondary characters were great. I’m secretly hoping Betty will find someone…cough…cough…maybe Viktor……Al and Frankie also added a quality to the story that had you appreciating what these men did to look out for the girls.
I am trying so hard to convey my enjoyment for this story. I think the era it takes place in, the dresses (I’m a sucker for them), and Haven’s writing style made this a fun read about love and death. Never thought I would say fun about death, but there you have it I did.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What a great read from Haven Cage! I could not put this story down. The writing style had me flipping pages on my kindle as fast as I could read them. This takes place in an era not so long ago where mobsters met in secret clubs to plot domination. One thing stands out in Molly’s and that is Vivie. Not only is she a looker with a voice, but she has a deadly secret. She has a vivacious and lively personality but not to be confused with a meek and timid girl. This definitely gives you the feels for female power. She is the spider luring her prey.
Dean has to make a choice to save lives. This naval officer is at port for one night when Vivie knocks his world off kilter. What transpires for him as he works towards an endgame will leave you wondering if he is going to give in and let death win.
I really enjoyed all the characters. This 50’s era mobster love romance was delightfully entertaining. You felt like you were there with them all as this story of death and love unfolded.
