This is my first book by Andrea Bills. It is a story that has suspense, drama, love and a HEA. The story was good and had some mystery to the suspense of the plot. I did guess the main culprit early on. I was spot on with that, but there was some tricks Andrea had up her sleeve. There were aspects I wasn’t expecting which made me excited to read this.
Ava is the girl struggling to survive. She is a long way from home. Hoping to find a path in life, she starts a new job at a construction company. I liked how she was a level head for her age. Sure she had some moments where you knew she was a young grad from college but overall she is smart and responsible. When she meets her new boss she is like a fish out of water. When things get heated and ugly, she has to decide how much she should let Brian in.
Brian is the hard-nosed boss of a construction company. He didn’t get to where he is by being nice. However when something he treasures is threatened he will go crazy alpha male to secure it. This was written in such a way that you weren’t sure what to make of him all the time. It was part that kept me guessing as the story unfolded. Was he really an asshole or is there a heart of gold under there.
Overall this story is great. I definitely want the second one. Tayler is a secondary character in here but it will be interesting to have her chance at happiness. I liked how it ended. It was the perfect HEA for how this story went. I will say, as with many suspense stories, the ending exploded with activity and movement. It was over in a blink. What was great about it, was how Andrea closed up the loop on it. She didn’t make the ending rushed. It flowed well. I gave it a four because there were some typos and errors that did distract me while reading. Overall it is a good quick read and if you are in to suspense romances.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ava starts a new job that she immediately thinks she needs to quit. When her eyes land on her boss, she definitely needs to quit. He is hotter than hot and also meaner than Oscar the Grouch. She becomes involved in a matter that has her fearful for her life. She is extremely independent and I liked that about her. She was very relatable for her age and what her goals were for life. When her boss, Brian, overwhelms her, she isn’t sure what to make of it all.
Brian was a mystery about his feelings and actions. He came across gruff, bossy, and sometimes mean. It took me a while to fully understand his feelings and actions. I thought this was great that I was kept guessing on how he would react to Ava.
The secondary characters also made the story. Tayler is a great character to match with Ava’s personality.
Overall I really liked this story. There were some errors that caused me to reread sections, but it was a story I enjoyed. I am excited to see what is next from this author.
