This is my second book by LM. I thought it was an intricate telling of lies woven into real life and lyrics surrounded by love. LM took her time creating this amazing world that consumes you when you are reading this story.
Caterina has had nothing but lies most of her life. People have used her and stolen from her. To say she is jaded is an understatement. Caterina was a hard character for me to like. I found that refreshing. I felt like she held grudges against people that didn’t deserve her shade. She didn’t know what to make of Mateo. She opens herself up to him partially. It was like she had one foot in the relationship and one foot ready to run. My heart felt for her and her grandma. Not to mention the whole relationship she had with her Uncle and Dad.
Mateo came in all suave and in love with Cat. I feel like he woos her but is guarded with so many things. He has this idea of what a perfect life would be. He basically wants his cake and to eat it too. I did like his ability to stay true to himself even if he took some bad detours along the way. This was one of the times where I felt he should’ve listened to the jaded ways of Cat. His love For Cat was a living, breathing thing. It was consuming, explosive, rocky, and messy.
The lies, twists, turns, and surprises in this story will leave you speechless. I did not expect it to unfold and play out like it did. LM wove a symphony of a story. she had a way with words that moved you and made you feel.
There were a lot of moments where I felt communication between Cat and Mateo would have solved a lot. It made me angry at how they acted sometimes. Then other times the fierce loyalty they showed made me happy and cheering them on.
The plot takes you on a winding road to the HEA. I loved the resolutions we got on all the side stories. LM did that justice IMO. I’m giving 5 pointe shoes to this well-choreographed piece. It will twist you with lies, spin you in love and move you with lyrics.
