These two shorts from Winter Travers tie together. They both overlap in a sugary sweet story full of donuts, cakes, and fires. If you are looking for some short stories to read, I would recommend this cavity sweet, cooked to perfection reads.
Slow Burn
This is a short story in an anthology. Winter introduced us to brand new characters. You will fall in love with them. I know I did. I am doing this review with the other one she did because the stories overlap. So if you want two quick reads with humor and romance check them out.
Brynn owns the bakery that is frequented by the local fire station. She is the shy quiet one who is scared to take the leap. Her friend Karen pushes her way out of her comfort zone to find love. Even in this short story, Winter captures her personality so well.
Abe was fun to read about. It was like that Mac truck hit him and he waw hearts. I was giggling at his zingers to Brynn. He and his firefighter buddies are a hoot. Especially making fun of Abe’s lack of cooking skills.
This story is short, and insta everything. I did enjoy how Winter ended it. Made the insta attraction story IMO. If you want a short FF read then check this baby out. 5 pretty pointe shoes for it.
5 Alarm Donuts
For national donut day, Winter released this cute story. It is a short story as part of an anthology. The only complaint I have is I want more! We first met Karen and Blake in Slow Burn. Which that review is above. Since they are short reads, I thought it was good to combine them.
Karen works at the bakery with her best friend Brynn. after Brynn found love, Karen though maybe she had it in Blake. While they date, she is afraid to say those 3 little words. The humor Karen brings has you laughing with them. Her and Brynn made this story. I loved how Brynn helped Karen’s love life along. Even though it was a super short read Karen’s personality shined through.
Blake loves Karen. He is a great character and you can see how after a year of this song and dance with Karen he wants to move forward. I really like how he treats her and watches out for her.
Overall this short story is done well. You get as much info as you can. I highly recommend reading Slow Burn first to get more Karen and Blake. As it goes for short reads, I give it 5 Pointe Shoes. It’s a snapshot in time but not unrealistic and I like that. I also want to read it again and crave more.
