Branching out, I received an email to review a children’s story. I have Little Man, who is 5 going on 20 most days, but he loves good stories. With the request, I thought it would be fitting to create a separate review corner for some children’s stories we have read together. I am going back to start at the beginning with Bryony Supper and The Inventing Tubes. I am posting these reviews on the weekend, when I have them, I don’t expect there to be a lot. I know this may be out of the wheelhouse for what some of my followers want to see, don’t worry I still plan to review my normal delicious indulgences.

The Inventing Tubes is the first story in a series. It introduces to your child two characters that make up the Pasta Kidz gang. This story takes you on the journey of Sarah Spaghetti and Rikki Ravioli in inventing a pasta ball. My son giggled as we read the book thinking the names were funny. He also really enjoyed commenting on things Sarah shouldn’t do. It gave a great lesson about not cutting corners and trying to cheat to get ahead. My son particularly loved the ending and was really upset when I didn’t have the second book to keep the story going.

As a parent, I enjoyed the illustrations of the story. They fit well with what was written. I liked that it was a fairly quick read and kept my son engaged. He also talked about the book long after we had read it and for a 5-year-old to do that, I was impressed. The moral of the story was perfect for him as well. It helps to show right from wrong and we had open discussions on why we don’t cheat.

I would recommend this book to any parent with a child from 5-8. I think they will find it silly but entertaining at the same time.
